Ride for De Warmste Week

As an energy group, we know how important it is that everyone has access to a warm home. That's why we link all the energy we generate together directly to a fundraiser for De Warmste Week: for every kilowatt-hour we generate, Strado Group donates €100 to the cause. Can't make it, or prefer to give on your own? You can easily make a donation through De Warmste Week.

Why are we doing this?

Today's energy market offers more opportunities than ever. To actually seize them, you need every link in the value chain. That's why Elindus, Entrado, Stelmo and Amplifino joined forces under Strado Group: to give businesses the full picture and a firm grip on the market.

Those who know us know that a dry speech is not our style for celebrating a milestone like this. Strado Group is turning the energy market upside down, and we take that very seriously at our launch, 24 hours straight.

Practical information

For 24 hours, Strado Group takes over the iconic Wintercircus. The doors of our arena are wide open for you, day and night!

By bike or on foot

Do you live, study or work in Ghent? There is a large underground bike parking facility under De Krook library. From there, you step straight into the Wintercircus arena.

Parking

Coming from West Flanders, Antwerp or Brussels via the E17/E40? Follow the signs for Gent Centrum. The nearest parking garages are Parking Gent Zuid (P1) and Parking Center (P2), both within walking distance of the Wintercircus.

Public transport

Take the train to Ghent-Sint-Pieters or Ghent-Dampoort. From either station, a tram or bus takes you to the Gent Zuid stop in just a few minutes. From there, it's barely 200 meters on foot to one of the Wintercircus entrances.

Facilities

Participants have access to changing rooms and restrooms with showers. We also keep everyone well supplied with fresh coffee, water and energy-packed snacks.

FAQ

To keep the cycling frenzy on track, you'll find answers to the most frequently asked questions here.

Practicalities & participation

  • Can anyone take part in the world record attempt?

Yes! The record attempt is open to an unlimited number of participants who take turns on the static bikes. The minimum age is 16. Participants aged 16 to 18 need written consent from a parent or guardian.

  • Can I sign up several people or an entire team?

Absolutely! The more, the merrier (and the more watts on the board). Please note: our registration system strictly processes one person per booking. Want to sign up a whole team? Then simply go through the registration form again for each team member.

  • How long do I have to, or can I, ride?

Under the official rules, each rider must pedal for an absolute minimum of one minute. To keep the event running smoothly, you book one or more 60-minute time slots via the landing page. You can book several time slots at once (up to 4).

  • Do I need to be a trained athlete to take part?

Not at all. To break the current world record of 112,627.5 Wh, every pedal stroke counts. Whether you push hard (around 150 watts) or ride at a relaxed pace while chatting (around 60 watts): as long as the pedals keep turning, you're helping to break the record. On top of that, every participant receives a voucher from Cyclo Studio for a free spinning class!

  • What kind of pedals do the bikes have?

Our static bikes are provided by Cyclo Studio. They are standard professional indoor bikes that are easy to adjust for any level. They come with dual-sided pedals: one side is a clipless pedal (for those who bring their own cycling shoes), the other is a regular flat pedal. Whether you show up in full cycling kit or simply in comfortable sneakers, you can hop on and start pedaling right away.

  • Is the event free for supporters and visitors?

It certainly is. Everyone is welcome at the Wintercircus for the full 24 hours to soak up the atmosphere, cheer the riders on, attend the panel discussions or enjoy the activities. Is a bike still available while you're there, and do you feel the itch? Then you can request a time slot on the spot.

Guinness World Record

  • Which record are we trying to break?

We are going for "Most electrical energy generated by pedalling on static bicycles for 24 hours". The current official record stands at 112,627.5 Wh (112.6 kWh). To make history, we need to have generated more electricity after exactly 24 hours of continuous cycling.

  • How is the energy generated officially measured?

We measure mechanical and electrical energy in real time using approved precision sensors on every bike. The entire attempt is filmed nonstop for 24 hours and meticulously certified by independent expert witnesses and a sworn technician, in line with the strict rules of Guinness World Records.

  • Will I receive proof of my participation in the world record?

Absolutely! As a thank-you, and as tangible proof that your name is on this world record, every participant receives a digital certificate by email after the event.

  • How exactly does the donation to De Warmste Week work?

For every kilowatt-hour we generate together, Strado Group donates €100 directly to De Warmste Week. So the harder you pedal, the bigger the support. Of course, you can always make a donation yourself as well.

Location & access

  • How do I get to the Wintercircus and where is the entrance?

The Wintercircus has three public entrances, each giving direct access to the central arena:
Entrance 1: Miriam Makebaplein 2, 9000 Gent (next to De Krook city library)
    Entrance 2: Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat 11, 9000 Gent
Entrance 3: Lammerstraat 13, 9000 Gent (main entrance of the bars and restaurants)

Night entrance (20:00 – 08:00): please note that during the night, only the Miriam Makebaplein entrance is open.

  • Where do I check in as a participant?

When you enter the Wintercircus, the central reception desk is clearly signposted. Check in there with our crew at least 15 minutes in advance to collect your starter pack and further instructions.

  • How do I get there by bike, public transport or car?

By bike: there is plenty of underground bike parking right by the entrance (including under De Krook library).
Public transport: from Ghent-Sint-Pieters or Ghent-Dampoort station, take the tram or bus to the Gent Zuid stop, a two-minute walk from the Wintercircus.
By car: you can park within walking distance at Parking Gent Zuid (P1) or Parking Center (P2).

  • Are there facilities for participating riders?

Yes, the Wintercircus has restrooms, changing rooms and recovery zones. We provide plenty of water, energy drinks and meal options on site to recharge your batteries.
